Sensible bidding!

I am writing down a few thoughts on the subject of buying on eBay. Some are just opinions and some are the result of hard experience!ALWAYS check postal costs - this may seem obvious but a 'bargain' may not look so exciting when you realise the FULL cost. BEWARE of listings where the price is ridiculously low but the postal costs are excessively high - this is a scam because you can not return the item without being badly out of pocket! i.e. if an item is 0.99GBP

Fake Disney Minnie Mouse SURPRISE PINK CAR pins

Watch Out ... Minnie Mouse Phones While Driving Pink Car !BE CAREFUL WHEN BUYING DISNEY MINNIE GLITTER/SPARKLE CAR PINS Is Minnie Waving and has a Surprise Numberplate?Or is she talking on a mobile phone when driving? The real Walt DisneyWorld pins show Minnie waving and as it was a "Surprise Pin"and hasa number plate pin-on-pin add-on which says Surprise and is on goldentone metal.real Disney BootlegThe smaller BOOTLEG version shows Minnie using a mobile phone and on the back says it is from Hong Kong Disneyland and is on silvertone metal.RealDisney BootlegThis unauthorized/counterfeit/bootleg pin is similar to a prototype of Pin 48365, however it was never produced or released by Disney. (Pin 48365 was the pin released by Disney.) This counterfeit pin is now being produced in mass amounts and being sold to individuals not associated with Disney. As a result they are popping up everywhere - including Disney (where staff accidentally trade for them!)and are starting to turn up oneBay!REMEMBER: The difference in this counterfeit pin is that Minnie is holding a cell phone in her left hand. This pin is also missing the pin-on pin "surprise" licence plate and the pin is backstamped Hong Kong Disneyland in addition to the (c) Disney. The backstamps are also placed differently, on the bootleg pin they are together. Another giveaway is the size - the counterfeit pin is much smaller than theofficial one.RealDisney BootlegThe actual prototype pin of the pin released at WDW did not have the Hong Kong Disneyland backstamp, and PinPics.com say that this has been confirmed with Disney, and that this pin was definitely not released in Hong Kong Disneyland.SO BEAWARE OF WHAT YOU ARE PURCHASING - Some collectors may well like to have both pins, as it is fun to have Minnie driving illegally - here on theIsle of Man it is illegal to use your mobilephone whilst driving, (we were the first place in the world to make this law!) and it is now becoming illegal in othercountries too.HAPPY PIN COLLECTING AND SELLING EVERYONE!(Please Note: Much of theinformation and firstofficial pinpicture in this article came courtesy of PinPics.com - a great place to check up on collectable Disney items. Syma 9081 Lama 3ch Electric Helicopter

I have included this guide to assist those who have never flown this helicopter and can't understand the instructions supplied with it, or haven't read them. This guide is aimed to assist you in trimming the helicopter prior to meaningful flying. On the transmitter, you have 2 control sticks, the left one is for throttle control, the right is for directional control. beside and under each are two fine tuning trim slides. The two slides beside and under the left hand throttle control : The bottom slide does nothing, it is included for a 4 channel helicopter and this is onlythree. The slide beside the left hand throttle control should be set just slightly below centre, this ensures that when the throttle is fully down (off) there is no signal sent to the helicopter, which might otherwise run at a slow idle if the slide was at the centre of above. The two slides beside and under the right hand directional control :The bottom slide is included to fine tune theturning of the helicopter. initially, this should be set in the centre. The slide beside the right hand directional control should also initially be set in the centre, this controls the rear rotor blade (forwards and backward movement).Round button/dial above the right hand directional control (Gyro trim):This dial should also initially be set in the centre, this is the feature you'll need to adjust first, it controls the spin of the helicopter when hovering.Trimming your helicopter for the first time :Open the throttle slightly until the main blades are turning, check that the rear rotor blade isn't turning. If it is, adjust the slide which is beside the right hand directional control until it stops spinning.Push the throttle forward to about 3rd of its travel until the helicopter reaches a height of two to three feet, it is likely to be spinning, turn the dial above the right hand directional control in the opposite direction to the spin until it stops spinning, trimming for spin completed.Flying your helicopter :Now you can fly the helicopter using the directional control, don't push the lever too farin any direction until you are confident of what each input is doing.Once you have mastered the amount of input you need to control a flight you can use both levers to adjust your height, speed of flight and direction all at the same time.Useful Tips :If you lose control at any time and foresee an iminent crash, either on the ground or into an object, kill the throttle to avoid damage to the rotor blades.Choose a wide open space, very light or even better, no wind.Always ensure your battery is fully charged, this is when the green light on the charger has turned bright green.Always ensure your antenna is pulled fully out before a flight.Oh, DON'T Tighten the screws that hold the main rotor blades on, there supposed to be free!!!

RC Helicopters some tips and warnings.

HI. This is my guide for RC helicopters, written by someone who plays with and sells small helicopters. It's written mainly for the benefit of anyone who has not flown an r/c helicopter before, those who have will have already paid richly for this knowledge...Read it, and you will save both time and money.Rule 1: The more you pay for a helicopter, the more it will cost you to keep it working.Rule 2: They all crash, but some are easier to crash than others, and some take crashing much better than others.Rule 3: The phrase "Easy to fly" is a lie... BUT some are easier than others, Just as some people are more natural pilots than others. After watching a friend accrue half a dozen dead helicopters, and buying a couple of naff ones myself, I realised one crucial thing: If you ever want to be able to properly control your helicopter you need A BARE minimum of 3 channels. That means the controller allows you to vary at three things, those being engine power, tilt forwards and backwards, and turn left and right. IF I am asked, I always suggest people start with a small indoor 3 channel helicopter that charges fast and is durable like the Syma 608 Mosquito helicopter. This will allow you to gain lots of basic experience as cheaply as possible, and the small size and weight limits the damage and cost. Of course if you are one of those healthy outdoors types, you'll want an outdoors helicopter. The problem here is the wind. Most indoor / small helicopters have been designed to be easy to fly, and hence do not have much spare capacity for fighting even the simplest breeze. My neighbours now just let me enter their gardens without knocking, when I'm flying the small stuff... The bigger more powerful helicopters of course have sufficient capability to fight the wind, but that increased capability also increases the severity of any crash, which translates as more time spent repairing and less time spent flying, until you have good flying skills. You simply won't gain those skills if you break your helicopter first time out. Which is why I recommend a small indoor 3 channel helicopter!Other small helicopters I have tried and evaluated as part of my research are: Syma S001 and Huan Qi (AKA "wanky") 813 are a little fragile, but are relatively easy to fly "nicely". The Huan qui has more power, but seems to get broken more than the syma. Double Horse 9094, 9089, which are more tricky to fly, but fly faster and can generally do better outdoors. The canopy on these models is a little ill fitting and falls off, but they crash surprisingly well, and are one of my personal favourites. Huan Qi 811 in our house is known as the "killer of fridge magnets" becuase when it collides with the fridge it always escapes unscathed but the impact is sufficient to dislodge the magnets. It's durable and flies real nice indoors or dead still air, but it's size and power makes it very unpopular with the missus or the cat when flown indoors and it's a bit under powered for out doors. It is however, incredibly durable, and is the only helicopter that I have been unable to break during testing. GT models Apache Gunship, 4 channel version, (Do not buy the two channel version except as a souce of spare parts for the four channel Heli) Flies quite well once set up correctly, but regularly consumes (mercifully cheap) blades and of course, is harder to learn to fly than a three channel. Silverlit X-UFO. Incredibly sophisticated, and initially quite durable, this in my opinion is a flawed product. Unfortunately the vast majority have a mechanical gyro that helps make it easy to fly and controllable until a gust of wind, or the pilot induces more than 20 degrees of lean, when the gyro "topples" and the craft immediately enters a mode known as the "flip of death". There's an entire modelling community devoted to hacking these things about, and some of em fly real well, but not out of the box. There are several version of this made by Silverlit, and apparently knock of versions as well, but spare parts are an ordeal to acquire, and it does like to consume motors and gyro's by all accounts. Silverlit stuff, generally seems well thought out, and attractive, but spares are expensive and seem difficult to locate, consequently, their stuff never seems to spend much time in the air. Twister Skylift. An awesome helicopter in many ways. costs around 140 quid and is very well thought out, and well supported with spares, but just stupidly easy to break, and surprisingly expensive to fix. For example: A rolling landing onto my lawn to my surprise instantly wiped out the flimsy front undercarriage. That instantly rendered the helicopter un-useable, and it's 4 quid plus a wait for the front spare wheels, in my case I had previously damaged and bodged the rear U/C so it's 8 quid plus postage, and the wait... As for the blades....*Skylift extra notes. Since writing this review I have come to the conclusion that the skylift is unfeasible to operate, unliess you have deep pockets. Last week itaccidentally got dropped off a table. Broke the landing gear AND the canopy! That's about 36 quid's worth of damage... Since this week the "3 in1" electronics also packed up, (nearly 40 quid!) whilst I was discovering that this helicopter is not easily compatible with my futaba transmitters(Futaba are pretty much the industry standard in R/C). If anyone can tell me why this is, I'd like to know!!*Vital spare parts which should be easily availble for any helicopter (Unless it is a mosquito, or 811!) are spare blades. The blades tend to shatter on contact with hard objects at speed and, on the more expensive helicopters even tipping it over so that the blades touch the ground is enough. I own the Twister Skylift helicopter, which has two sets of rotors each with four weak blades. It can consume up to ten quid worth of spare parts each time I take it for a spin. I calculated that the first week of learning to fly the Skylift actually was costing me more than owning and running my jaguar... You'll notice that some very low airtime second hand "skylifts" are appearing on ebay for, I suspect, this very reason. I've had to import a bulk order of blades from the USA to make it feasible to operate this baby, but I think I may be able to come up with a mod that will allow it to use cheaper and more durable blades in a month or so. I hope this brief rambling guide has been helpful, it's certainly cost me a lot of time to be able to write it!General things to consider are:Flight time,Recharging time,Stabilty, Manouverability,Durability, and appearance!I'm sure this guide could be more complete, and it glosses over the more "serious" helicopters pretty much entirely, but it's just a primer, really. You can get really involved with r/c helicopters, which I guess why I am trying to assemble an electronically stabilised, BB firing, camera carrying monstrosity in my back room, even as you read this...Have fun.. Steve C.

Trampolining the benefits the exercise suggestions

There are some surprising benefits of returning to this childhood act, which combines the benefits of cardiovascular exercise and strength training. "You're actually working your heart and your muscles." Trampolining also activates lymphatic circulation. Some moves on a mini-trampoline "The net surface is tighter, the springs are shorter and tighter, so the emphasis is on downward movement as opposed to upward movement." Trampolining is one of the most efficient and effective type of exercise for the entire body that is widely unknown. It has all of the benefits of cardiovascular exercise and strength training (improved circulation, increased strength, develops balance and coordination, etc.) with many added benefits due to its effect on every cell of the body: It increases the lymphatic system's circulation (the body's waste removal system), ultimately improving the efficiency of the immune system. It increases bone density because it actually strengthens the skeleton. which makes it a great exercise for preventing osteoporosis. Because of the increase in lymphatic system circulation, it also works to tone and tighten the skin

Sellers! Beware of using Paypal!

I am writing this guide to just try and make more sellers aware of just how dodgy Paypal is from my own personal experiences.First of all let me say, like most sellers, i thought paypal was great, its a quick way of getting paid, you can send items quicker and easy to use, but after the amount of trouble i have had with paypal i am now getting ready to give up ebay and paypal altogether. You see it all the time, "Paypal, great to use, secure be paid quick etc." - Now this is the biggest load of rubbish i have ever heard and i will tell you for why, 1 week ago (and not for the first time i may add) i sold some items on ebay, they totalled to around

German Tank

I too brought one of these tanks which before I even opened it I could see that it was damaged, and was not caused in transit. Struggled to find an easy way to return emailed them and they arranged at their expense. Would of happily accepted a replacement item, but they opted to refund. Was on occasions a little slow to respond, and some emails I had to translate from German (which was not easy). Not unhappy wiht the excersice but wasted my time, and My son still does not have his birthday present. H F trade GmBHNevermind sometimes these things happen.Darren

Star wars Is it repro or is it vintage.

Reproduction weapons have plagued the collectors market for years now, and seemly every collection you see advertised will probally have arepro weapon init. So how can you tell the difference. Good question, there is a easy step which will elimate, id say 90% of reproduction weapons and its so simple its untrue, simply fill a glass full of water a put your weapon/s init most vintage weapons will float and the reproduction weapons will sink. There a few exceptions to this though and any vintage weapon which as a large mass will also sink, for example joda cane, amanaman staff and r2 d2 pop lightsabers will sink even though they are vintage, the only way you will know if they are orginal is on the felixability and the plastic mode point. I hope this at the very least as given you some free advice. Thanxs for reading.

RUNNING STUART TURNER STEAM ENGINES IN A STEAM BOAT

This is a short edited extract from MAINSTEAM MODELS "The Complete Guide to Miniature Steam" which is available on CDROM or by Internet download. The excellent range of Stuart Turner steam engines, if they are well built, are very well proven designs of miniature steam engines. At this point I must mention that I have no connection with Stuart Turner Ltd in any way. The popular types for use in model steam boats are the 10V

Genuine Rubik's cubes and puzzles

There are many Rubik's Cubes on ebay but many are fakes and are often poor quality and can fall apart after a few turns. Like most things in life you get what you pay for. How canyou tell a fake cubefrom the genuine item? The best and simplest rule is 'LOOK FOR THE LOGO'. On all genuine Rubik's cubes there will be a Rubik's logo on one of the white squares, no logo and it's probably a cheap knock off. There were a few cubes that didnot have a logo but unless they are sealed in a plastic clear container it is impossable too tell from a picture whether it is an original or a fake. I wouldn't buy one!If you cannot see the white side the chances are it does not have the logo, would you take a picture and not show the logo? but you can always ask the seller though, I have seen worse ebay mistakes. How canyou tell a fake Rubik's Magic from the genuine item?Again LOOK FOR THE LOGO. The original Rubik's Magic was black with 3 coloured rings and comprised of 8 tiles. A year after the RUBIK'S MAGIC the RUBIK'S MASTER MAGIC was released, they aresilver with 5 coloured rings and comprise of 12 tilies.I'm interested in collecting, whats the best way of searching?Try using the misspellings including RUBIKS, RUBIX, RUBICS, RUBICKS, dont forget too include the correct spelling RUBIK'Sand don't include the word cube. becausepuzzles are quite small and light itis always good tosearch world wide. This should bring you a lot more results.I hope this guide has been helpfull and PLEASE RATE IT and if you have any questions then please feel free too contact me.

Fixing Bent Star Wars Miniature Figures

Disclaimer: Do this at your own risk. I will not be held responsible for any damage! Having said that, it's completely safe and easy to do if you use common sense! It's quite annoying when you receive a miniature, only to find that it's been bent, either in transit, or something to do with the manufacture. However, don't be too hasty in giving negative feedback to the person you bought it from. It's invariably not their fault. I have bought quite a few miniatures through eBay only to find this problem with a few (mainly the droid minis). The good news is that it's very easy to fix!First get yourself a bowl of cold water. Normal tap water will do. Next, you'll need a hair dryer. Use the hair dryer on the minaiture until it goes soft (takes a few seconds). Now, bend the miniature until it's straight and dip it in the water. It will harden within a second or two. And that's it! The whole process only takes about half a minute.Bare in mind that you only need to hold the mini under the hairdryer for a few seconds until it goes soft enough to bend easily.Dead simple. I've done this on my miniatures and have managed to fix all of them. The only problem is that you don't know when to stop! It's far too addictive. But then I'm sad like that...I hope this guide helps anyone with similar problems!

Far East Sourced 40MHz RC Equipment

One thing I have noticed whilst searching for RC Equipment is that there are a number of EBay Stores that either are based or ship from the Far East. This in itself is not an issue, but if it happens to be Synthesised equipment then a problem arises. The European 40 MHz channel allocation is different to the Far East 40MHz channel allocation. For example,WithJR Radio Equipment, Channel Number 71 Relates to a Transmit Frequency of 40.710 MHz whereas the UK Channels do not have a 71 equivalent, we in the UK use the frequency as the channel number ie 705 or 715. These relate to 40.705 MHz

Big R/C Tank

I bought one of the Heng Long Tiger tanks in 1/16th scale from HF Trade in Germany. I have read the guides written by people who have not had a good experience and thought you may like to read a positive one. I won the auction, they sent an invoice, I payed via paypal. They said when it was shipped. It arrived 10 days after the auction ended. Feedback was left by both parties, amd three months later I am still having great fun with "that bloody kids toy" as my wife calls it. (I must stop shooting at her with it) With most things in life there are good and bad, check feedback, nobody forces you to buy. If things are faulty, talk to the seller. A lot of Ebay sellers are not big firms, but garage sellers with normal full time jobs. Be patient, and most problems will be solved. Ebay is fun, I know hard earned money is involved, but enjoy................

Code 3 - Or yet another repainted model ?

Over the past 6 years, the appearance of numerous 'chopped' or 'repainted' die-cast models has almost spiralled into an attempted art form of it's own , from some appallingly poor high gloss , over pigmented paint finishes available from a can to some reasonably good quality airbrushed restorations that are almost fool proof in their comparisons to the 'mint' model. In the latter case it is worth noting that the old tell tale traits of poor axle ends

The Staunton Chess game set : a brief history

The history of the Staunton style chess setTo find out more about our company before reading this guide click here A huge increase in the popularity of chess, particularly in international play during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, brought about a renewed demand for a more universal model of chess set. The variety and styles of the conventional form begun in the fifteenth century had expanded tremendously by the beginning of the nineteenth century. Some of the more common conventional types popular during the period included the St. George, English Barleycorn, the French Regence and the central European Selenus styles. Most pieces were tall, easily tipped over and cumbersome during play. But their largest downfall was the uniformity of the pieces within one set. A player's lack of familiarity with an opponent's pieces could tragically alter the outcome of a game. By the early decades of the nineteenth century it was all too clear that there was a great need for a chess set with pieces that were easy to use and universally recognized by players of diverse cultural backgrounds. The solution, first released in 1849 was to become known as the Staunton chess set after the Shakespearean scholar, author and the world champion, Howard Staunton ( 1810 - 1874 ).The pieces were symbols of "respectable" Victorian society: a distinguished bishops miter, a queen's coronet and king's crown, a knight carved as a stallion's head from the ancient Greek Elgin Marbles and a castle streamlined into clean classical lines, projecting an aura of strength and security. It has been said that the form of the pawns was based on the 'Freemasons square and compasses', however; another theory reflects the pawns form is derived from the balconies of London Victorian buildings. There were also practical innovations: for the first time a crown emblem was stamped onto a rook and knight of each side, to identify their positioning on to the king's side of the board. The key was the use of universally recognizable symbols atop conventional stems and bases. Moreover, the pieces were compact, well balanced and often weighted to provide a playing set that was as useful as it was understandable. Further to the design, the expensive ebony and boxwood sets were weighted with lead to provide added stability and the underside of each piece was covered with felt. The king sizes ranged from 3.5 inches to 4.5 inches and the sets typically came in a carved wooden box."A set of Chessmen, of a pattern combining elegance and solidity to a degree hitherto unknown, has recently appeared under the auspices of the celebrated player Mr. STAUNTON. A guiding principle has been to give by their form a signification to the various pieces - thus the king is represented by a crown, the Queen by a coronet. The pieces generally are fashioned with convenience to the hand; and it is to be remarked, that while there is so great an accession to elegance of form, it is not attained at the expense of practical utility. Mr. STAUNTON'S pattern adopts but elevates the conventional form; and the base of the Pieces being of a large diameter, they are more steady than ordinary sets." The Staunton as it became known, became available to the general public on September 29, 1849. The Staunton style chess set was soon the standard on which most tournament playing pieces have been made and used around the globe ever since. The low cost to produce the Staunton style chess set allowed the masses to purchase sets and helped to increase the popularity of the game of chess. The Staunton set obtained the stamp of approval of the World Chess Federation, when in 1924 it was selected as their choice of set, for use in all future international chess tournaments. For over a century and a half, this style has been cherished by players around the world. The superiority of the design lay in its well-balanced, easy to recognized pieces. Such was its success that it will be the style of choice for play to this day and hopefully many years into the future. I hope you have found this brief history interesting. A GUIDE TO TRIMMING AND FLYING TWO CHANNEL MODEL PLANES

This article is intended for ebayers who are new to the hobby of radio control planes and who have just bought their first 2 channel model plane. This guide should be read as a supplement to any instructions that came with your plane. Some of the model planes will require trimming and some planes may not need any adjustment at all. If you understand the concept of trimming you are more likely to succeed in getting the best out of your model.TRIMMINGIf you have ever made a paper aeroplane you will know they rarely fly first time. You often have to tweak the wing surfaces and after some trial and error you eventually get it to glide. This is trimming. It is a technique to adjust the flight surfaces of the plane so that it flies in straight and level in a stable way. The same principle applies to model planes and you may be surprised to learn that even large planes and airliners need to be trimmed during flight. The pilot (or computer) sets the trim control inside the cockpit when the plane is airborne and cruising. To trim a model plane we need to adjust the tail surfaces. i.e. the elevator flap on the tail-wing and the rudder flap on the tail-fin. See photo below.Initially you will not know if your plane needs trimming until you have test flown it. Before you do this check that you have fitted the wings correctly (i.e. not upside down or back to front). Also ensure you have placed the battery inside the body so that the plane is properly balanced ( Do this even if you are testing the plane in power free glide). Choose a calm day to do the trimming. Most of these models are very light and very susceptible to gusty conditions. Whether you choose to trim your model with power 'on' or power 'off' is up to you. If you have bought a stubby model such as the 'Transcend' or the 'Mini-Flyer' then use power 'on'. If you have bought an efficient slender model such as the 'Oriole' or the 'Falcon' then you trim these with no power. If you choose to trim the model with power 'on' then the only pre-condition is that you do not vary the power setting during the flight and do not use the steering controls or you will get misleading observations. Observing the plane is key to making the correct trim adjustments.Hand launch model by throwing horizontally (parallel to the ground). Observe the direction it flies or glides. If the plane veers too much to left adjust rudder slightly to the right (about 1 mm each time). If it veers too much to the right adjust the rudder slightly to the left (about 1 mm each time). If it nose dives too steeply you should raise the elevator flap on the tail only slightly (about 1 mm each time)If it pitches up too much and drops it's nose, you can reduce elevator deflection slightly. The real art is to find a balanced setting so that the plane will climb gently or glide gently to the ground in a reasonably straight path. Note. 3 and 4 channel planes can often be trimmed during the flight (via the trim controls on the handset). Only if the travel of the control surface reaches a limit, is it necessary to re-adjust rod and flap position settings on the ground. FIRST POWERED FLIGHTWhen you feel the model is more or less ready, you should apply maximum throttle and hand launch directly into wind. Keep watching the flight behavior of the model as it flies. If the model turns when it should be flying straight, adjust the rudder slightly to counter this as described above. If the model flies too fast and fails to climb, the elevator flaps may need slight adjustment upwards. When the flight is steady, keep applying maximum throttle and let the plane climb. Relax the throttle when you have reasonable height. You can now practice your turns. FLYING TIPSFly on calm days to reduce risk of crashing or losing the airplane.Try to avoid flying too high. Signal will be lost and plane could glide far away. This is especially true on breezy days.Take a small roll of sticky tape or duct tape to the field to be ready for any quick fixes. Finally keep fingers away from spinning propellers. Ouch!GENERAL REPAIRSFor lasting repairs (as opposed to temporary fixes) Copydex is an excellent all purpose adhesive and works well on expanded plastics. This is available in most DIY stores and comes in a plastic bottle.Good Luck!Skooteroid

how to start a lord of the rings army for begginers

Hello, this is my first attempt at writing a guide on ebay and it is about lord of the rings warhammer. Namely how to start an army, enjoy :).How to start a lord of the rings army...1.First of all you need to pick which side you want to collect, this could be either Good or Evil. Personally i collect the good army but it all depends on what you like. 2.Next you need to pick whether there is a specific kind of troop you want to collect. For the good side these are like Gondor, Rohan or Elves. Or for Evil there are teams like Isengard or mordor. There are lots more than those are just an example. You do not need to pick a specific army but it is always a good idea to start off with just one so you dont get too carried away.3.After you have made this decision then its time to buy some models.4.To do this, take the army you are buying and look around for different troops. To start i would reccommend getting troops and not heroes. For example if you want to start with gondor you could buy some warriors of minas tirith. For other armies there are: Mordor orcs, Rohan warriors or Isengard uruk-hai.5.The biggest mistake you culd make at this point is to buy masses and masses of warhammer. This is because when you see all of this warhammer unpainted and glued, it can look quite danting and you cant really be bothered to do it.6. The best thing to do is limit yourself to only get more when you have finished painting all of your other models.I hope that this guide gives new lord of the rings gamers hints from my mistakes. Thanks for reading.

Lego Star Wars Auction Buyers Guide

This guide is provided with the novice buyer or collector in mind and will help you make an informed choice (and hopefully avoid some of the common pitfalls) buying LEGO? STAR WARS and CLONE WARS on ebay. Much of what has been written in this guide applies equally well to other Lego themes and film tie-ins such as the Indiana Jones sets. I love Star Wars Lego and buy, sell and collect the original sets and figures together with my sons. We have an excellent collection much of which has been bought from sellers on ebay many of whom are collectors themselves and appear to share that same genuine enthusiasm for Lego Star Wars. However, and just as for any other items on ebay, it is worthwhile being a little cautious and taking the time to research the items, their current values and their seller's reputation. PRICESThe price guide on the Bricklink website provides a handy reference to new and used values. The completed items via ebay gives a rough idea but can also be a little deceptive as auction prices can be quite variable. Make an informed choice: If a set or item is available direct from Lego Shop At Home or on line via high street stores then check out the prices. New sets can often be cheaper delivered direct from Lego than the same sets offered on auction sites. Why pay over the odds? The same is true of parts or mini-figures. Check the Bricklink price guide and items offered by Bricklink Sellers. Bricklink also provides current values for original set instructions, boxes and separate parts.WHATS THE LOT? Half of the battle using ebay to purchase and collect Star Wars Lego is finding out what is on sale. Try to ascertain EXACTLY what is being sold. Is the item new? With or without Instructions? Boxed? Complete? Any replacement parts? If it an expensive item then be sure to communicate with the seller well in advance of the auction end so that you gain a good idea of the lot, it's quality and the kind of seller. The listing itself can be fairly revealing although the opposite can be true too.PHOTOGRAPHSOften a poor photograph speaks volumes about an item and can set the alarm bells ringing.. It could be that the seller's family dog particularly enjoys playing with Lego Star Wars. An item could be constructed from a large bucket of used parts many of which are in bad condition or alternative parts may have been used. An instruction booklet may be good for children to create the model but in such bad condition that it isn't of any value to a collector. A model may be covered in years of dirt or suffering from degradation including over-exposure to sunshine. On request some sellers are happy to provide more detailed photos.DESCRIPTIONSDescriptions for Lego items are varied. Short and succinct can be perfectly adequate. Long winded descriptions which barely stop short of detailing your postman's shoe size are often more trouble than they are worth. I find the best ones fall somewhere between the two and offer the right amount of information and which is perfectly relevant to the article for sale. Some long descriptions actually say next to nothing about the actual item for sale but bombard the viewer with other information relating to the seller. Lazy readers can easily skim and miss important details hidden within an excessive description. A classic example in Star Wars Lego listings for mini-figures are verbose descriptions which slip into the small print the fact that they contain magnets( see notes on magnetic figures below). These items usually fetch a lower price and less collectable than those without. I, myself, have bought such items by mistake having not taken the time to READ THE LISTING adequately. If you do not want to buy Lego mini-figs incorporating magnets it is a good idea to have a list of the 'magnet' mini-figs that Lego have released. Please see the notes on these items below. Another potential minefield is the addition of the term 'CUSTOM' to a description. The use of the word 'custom' effectively denotes an item that is not an official Lego release. Some expertly built custom figures, dioramas and designs can provide excellent additions to a collection. However the term is also used in descriptions as a 'get out of jail' card for someone to sell an item which purports to be an official Lego release but is seriously lacking in some respect ie. is constructed of the wrong parts. If you are only collecting the officially released Lego pieces then avoid 'Custom' items and look for the term in descriptions.Keen sellers naturally want the best price for their items and will describe them in their best light. A seller may dress an item in a selection of superlatives such as 'amazing' or 'fantastic!!!' but these subjective statements are in themselves worthless and to be taken with a pinch of salt. I have seen a Jango Fett mini-figure described in such glowing terms and its description photographs revealing it to have been chewed to pieces and kicked to kingdom come. Items that are described as 'rare!' or 'super-rare!' often need to be viewed in comparison to the many other exact same items being sold on ebay and elsewhere. I also wonder sometimes if a poor description including bad spelling is simply a way of deliberately 'acting dumb' to slightly mislead and unload poor quality items. But it is too easy to be cynical. It is up to the buyer to contact the seller to bring clarity to a listing and given some of the humungous prices that some Lego items reach it is almost mandatory to get more information before bidding and parting with hard earned money. Do not be afraid to ASK QUESTIONS. A good seller will quickly respond and be keen to promote their item and their reputation. Try to be fairly concise. Vague questions can produce vague answers and can be worthless. A good question should be specific. e.g.. 'Is the set 100% complete with any damage or part substitutions?' 'Does the mini-figure contain magnets?' ' Does the instruction booklet have any creases or tears?' 'Is it possible to view more detailed photographs?' The sellers reply to a question can, just like the bad photograph, be useful in sorting out the wheat from the chaff. There is, however, always the exception and shrewd judgement is always required. Not everyone can take a good photo or write a good description. As with all ebay auctions take note of the sellers reputation and feedback in previous transactions including the sellers own feedback to buyers. It is a jungle out there and be particularly wary of arrogant, rude sellers. An aggressive seller is likely to care less about the service they provide to buyers. Also bear in mind that buyers and sellers of Lego Star Wars can be be both young and old and often hard working mums!ALWAYS READ THETHE LISTING..Failure to read a listing can result in buying something quite different to what is expected. Beware the 'halo effect' whereby buyers read an auction description to be what they would like it to be. A good example are listings for INSTRUCTIONS to sets rather than the sets themselves. Many people have bid on such items thinking they are the actual sets based on the accompanying picture only to be disappointed and hugely out of pocket. If bidding for instructions then ensure that it is in the correct format. If you want to buy original instruction booklets then ensure that auctions are not for 'electronic' versions or PDFs. Incidentally electronic copies violate Lego's own material copyright and Ebay prohibit their sale. Always check the prices of Instruction booklets available for purchase via Bricklink sellers. Many original Lego instruction booklets are easily purchased for very little via Bricklink. On the subject of instructions scans of nearly all the Lego Star Wars sets instructions are freely available on line either direct from Lego.com or via Peeron or Brickfactory websites. Personally I use the Brickset website as a portal to find instructions and Bricklink for inventories. It is useful to look for postage reductions on multiple item purchases from a single seller. If it is not stipulated then ask the seller or in the last instance request an invoice for all the items together and ask the seller at the same time. Some sellers state that they do NOT combine postage. I try to avoid buying from these people who often IMO try to profit from postage whilst avoiding e-bay fees on the final sale price. Excessive postage charges are not good at all and considering the size and weight of Star Wars mini-figures I personally find some charges for these items unacceptable. New standards introduced in 2008 by ebay should, hopefully, help reduce over-charging. Carefully read the auction details concerning shipping costs to avoid any dispute over postal charges. Sometimes the postage can be over the odds and easily missed when seduced by a particularly low auction price. If particularly concerned about delivery time contact the seller. Given the nature of the items it is not unusual for young sellers to be very slow posting and may require a polite reminder. The best sellers often contact the buyer informing them when they have posted the item as a matter of course.BUYING OVERSEAS When looking to buy Star Wars Lego items bear in mind that prices in the US can be very much cheaper than the UK and consider buying overseas as an option. Some of the major store outlets in the US will ship to the UK. Some excellent bargains can be obtained from US outlets having stock sales. It is well worth buying items from US ebay sellers who are more than happy to ship to Europe. However, the shipping cost can be prohibitively expensive. Ensure that you get a quote on shipping costs from overseas sellers prior to buying otherwise it is quite possible to get a nasty shock!Personally I have rarely bought from sellers outside of Europe and the US but have not experienced any problems where I have done so. An important fact to remember with overseas purchases is that items outside of the European Union may be liable to import charges and a handling fee. Legally buyers have to pay taxes and import charges on every item over a minimum value (currently over

This listing will be of use to collectors wishing to identify missing numbers in their collections, particularly those that stopped at #75 when Del Prado decided to extend the partwork by a further 25 issues to 100 figures. It may also be of interest to those new to the Series who want to collect but perhaps not the whole 100. In this case you have several options. You could collect by Nationality: British, German, American, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian etc..You could collect by troop type: Army, Navy, Airforce, Marines, Paratroopers etc...You could collect by period: WWII, WWI, Post 1945 etc...Or you could collect by geographic theatre of operations: Eastern Front, Western Front, North Africa etc...My interest in Del Prado figures is both personal and professional. I collect the figures as a hobby and I also sell them in my eBay Toy Soldier Shop: Drum

"WANT IT NOW" - NEW SCAM - PLEASE BEWARE!!!

Want It Now - Huge Scam - Take CareHi, yesterday for the first time I used the "Want It Now" feature of eBay to look for a particular product ("Model B Computing" cassette tapes that came with the magazine of the same name in the 1980s if you have any to sell?!? ;-) )Just now, I was"asked" the following "question" about my post -"Hi there,Sorry because i disturb you but i have for sale what you want to buy. See here: (link given) if you like it because we have a deal soon! Regards"(I could not include the link as these guides don't allow anything non-eBay. However the link started with an IP address and included an eBay item number at the end.)At first I was wary as I searched eBay completely for the tapes this afternoon and also if people have what you want to buy they usually "respond" by posting the item through eBay which officially displays it at the bottom of the page through the site - not "ask a question" in this way; I saw that in the link itself there was an eBay item number so instead of using the link itself I just typed the item number into the eBay search bar and it came up with an old, unrelateditem (BMX bike) that had ended 4 months ago.In case I had got it wrong and the number had not related to that eBay item (I do really want these tapes!!!), I did paste the link into my address bar - this immediately brought up an eBay page for me to "Sign In". Being already signed in I knew this was wrong but my suspicions of the whole thing were confirmed when I saw the page was not secure.Sign In pages MUST start with https:// as opposed to http:// (the added "s" stands for "secure") and then directly after the 2 forward slashes it MUST say "signin.ebay" in the address bar - ANYTHING else is likely to be a scam. Additionally, there MUST be a symbol of a closed padlock somewhere on the page depending on which browser version you are using (I use Internet Explorer 7 and the padlock is directly to the right of the browser (address bar), next to and on the left of the "Refresh" symbol. Internet Explorer 6 used to put the padlock near the bottom of the page in the task bar - if in any doubt, refer to Google or your browser's help pages or look at a genuine sign in page to see where your padlock will be if you are on a secure page.)There are no doubt going to be countless people clicking on such links and being taken to a fake sign-in page where they will enter their eBay User ID and password expecting to find the item for which they are looking being sold - such fake pages are set up by scammers to defraud people - they look like real eBay pages but are not, they are fraudulent copies and then when someone enters their details the scammersget their username and password and can access their accounts to buy and sell maliciously (also known as "account hijacking"). This is usually done via emails known as "spoofs" (an official-looking eBay email that includes a link for you to sign in for pretend purposes) and now I see they are doing the same thing with the Want It Now page. The scammers will also be able to access personal information by going to your account page of your "My Ebay" and possibly be able to access Paypal accounts (and potentially even more, such as your emails) if you use the same password for each such account you have. Please, if you post to Want It Now, be wary of this - never, ever sign in to such a page and if someone does have what you want to buy, let them tell you in the traditional way (already having listed the product on eBay and then it showing at the base of yourWant It Nowpage rather than asking questions with links.)If you have already entered your details to such a link or suspect that you may have done, go to your Account Settings page in your My Ebay and change your password IMMEDIATELY. Any suspicious emails that appear to be from eBay or Paypal (owned by eBay) can be sent to eBay to look into, please go here for further information.

Kawasaki ZX12R

The ZX12R was the joint fastest production bike along with the Hayabusa up until the ne ZZR1400 came out at the end of 2005. It puts out 160 odd horsepower at the wheel straight out of the box and has massive torque all through the rev range to match.Although this is a portly looking bike the handling is surprisingly good once the suspension is sorted and set up. With a brave and skillful pilot it can keep up with the latest crop of 1000cc sportsbikes on all but the twistiest of roads. You have to be brave though, go into a corner fast on a closed throttle and that massive weight will push the front tyre quickly into the verge. Get on the gas with more than the merest whiff of throttle while banked over and the rear will instantly spin up. Picking exact lines and using perfect throttle control has never been so important. On the track it's a different story, the 12 struggles to keep with 600's let alone 1000's.Spinning out of corners onto the straight hinders progress as the smaller bikes get the power down without having a bus like projectile to shove along. Coming up to corners at similar speeds to modern 1000's is even worst as the brakes overheat causing the lever to come back to the bar (and thats if your lucky enough not to lock the front) as the front tyre is overwhelmed by sheer force. Sticky rubber may solve the problems a bit but with rears lasting 1500miles if your lucky and brake pads about 2 track days this bike is just to heavy for anything other than road use. Stability is rock like though, even flat out over bumps the chasis never does enough to scare. Wheelies are awsome as in 100mph launch speeds but care is needed as it's easy to flip when approaching the balance point. Landings are often hard and as a result fork seals and headrace bearings don't last long.To sum up the ZX12R is an ace bike, the type that everyone should own once, but only for a little while. Wear and tear is phenominal, it drinks as much fuel as a fast family car, and destroys consumables like their going out of fashion. It has an amazing motor that has to be abused to be believed and it makes a good tourer (take a jerry can and spare back tyre). On the down side it is fat and ugly and no matter how good the ride is I like a nice fire place around my fire. Buy an early unrestricted one for 3 grand off a rich old guy, abuse the hell out of it for a couple of months and get rid before it costs you.

Don't buy discontinued R/C helicopters

I have been building and flying model helicopters for over 15 years andalmost every month I come across a new commer to the hobby who haspurchased a helicopter from EBAY that simply is no longer fit forpurpose. If like me you are experienced and know what you are buyingthen so be it. For the others please read on.NOTE THIS IS AIMED 100% at the NEWBIE to this challenging yet rewarding hobby. For new commers whoenter the hobby with the "gee I have always wanted to do that" beware. Before buying please..please...please, contact a number of model shops and find out about current models and spares availability. Ican guarantee with 300% certainty that you are going to crash your helia number of times before you master the art. Crashes are costly at thebest of times but if your model is no longer in production you can kissthe money you paid for it goodbye because all you will be left with isa pile of rubbish.Occasionally you may well find a suitable donor machine for sale but you will be amongst the other 100 or so people also looking for spares and the one with the most cash is going to get them. Then you are faced with the prospect of negative returns, the longer this continues the greater the overall cost of the machine over the period you own it. At some point the smart ones are going to give up and move to something more readily available so whilst you may convince yourself that you will always get your money back by selling it for spares the fact is depending on how long you hang onto it you may not. Also consider that if the same critical part breaks on all machines then everyone is going to be buying that one part. Eventually that part even second hand will run out. At this point you won't be able to sell the remainder of your machine as the remaining parts will be irelevant and totally useless without that one critical component. The Kyosho Nexus and Concepts are two models to be especially wary of. These have been out of production for some time and critical items such as the main gear and clutch are no longer available. Stripping a main gear on a Nexus is very easy with just one hard tail landing. If you are a beginner I can assure you that you will do this and then be left with something you can no longer fly. These main gears sell for anything between

FAKE SHAKE LIGHTS MUST READ

Having recently been conned into buying a bunch of these lights that were (and still are) advertised on eBay as genuine,I am writing this note to help others avoid being ripped off as I was.The fake lights at first glance appear genuine, they have an induction coil and a metal slug that slides up and down inside the body passing throught the coil. However, the coil is not connected to anything and the slug is not magnetic. You will see a small PC board, but this is just a connecting point for the batteries, switch and LED, there are no other components installed. The LED bulb is in fact powered by 2 small disc shaped Lithium cells usually usedin wrist watches and once these cells are discharged no amount of shaking will produce light!Telling the differenceIf you pick up a new one of these lights and switch it on without shaking the light will come on and stay on for several hours until the lithium cells are discharged. The genuine item will not light without shaking and will only stay on for a few minutes after you stop shaking.By the way, never attempt to re-chargeLithium cells, they could explode and cause fire and/or injury!

Auctions getting cancelled because the Word CASH in des

Just a quick note to say DONT mention the word CASH in your description, title or payment instructions because it will get cancelled by e-bay??? why you ask?. e-bay say its because "Sellers may not solicit buyers to mail cash". Utter nonsense yes ok its not safe to send cash but if you send CASH by recorded or special delivery then its safe! I listed my items but i put cash accepted because i sell a lot of cars and expensive car items so people like to collect and pay cash, but e-bay never contacted me and gave me a chance to explain my WORDING they just cancelled all my auctions and now i have to do them all again. Perhaps e-bay should concentrate on running paypal properly instead of worrying about petty matters thats where the big problems lye.

After recieving an e-mail from my cousin in Australia I have learned that all BINDEEZ bead products have been recalled after six children in Australia and the U.S have been taken seriously ill after swallowing some of the beads. CLONE TROOPERS

The clone troopers were created ten years prior to the outbreak of the Clone Wars by the cloners on the planet Kamino at the behest of Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas, according to the Kaminoans. There is some debate on this point, however, as Sifo-Dyas was killed more than ten years before the beginning of the War.
The genetic template of the clone troopers was Jango Fett, one of, if not the most, feared bounty hunter in the Galaxy at that time, as well as one of the last surviving Mandalorians, an ancient warrior culture. The clone troopers were outfitted with armor styled after Fett's Mandalorian battle armor and armed with weapons and vehicles produced in secret by Kuat Drive Yards.
Clone troopers were grown with accelerated speed, nearly double that of a normal human, though this rate would slow at the biological age of 10. Clone Troopers continue to age faster than humans, giving them a much reduced lifespan. At the age of 10 they are flash-trained in their specific tasks. Their genetic code was altered to make them more docile and subject to military discipline, though some clone units such as the Advanced Recon Clone (ARC) Troopers and Republic Commandos were allowed to retain more of Jango's original personality such that they could more-directly draw on his guile and years of combat experience. It is also noted that while some of the clones do possess a few human emotions including remorse and humor there is little that they can do if an order is given.
The Battle of Geonosis marked the first deployment of the clone troopers as well as the beginning of the Clone Wars. Beginning with the rescue of the remnants of Mace Windu's Jedi strike team, the clone army fought the Separatist forces on the rocky surface of Geonosis, forcing their retreat. Following that battle, the clone troopers were spread throughout the galaxy to engage the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
Clone trooper armies were led by Jedi Generals, who were in turn accompanied by Clone Commanders. Many clone commanders were placed into the ARC Training Program and became ARC Commanders, allowed to add to their standard kit and specialize their armor as well as the armor of their soldiers. Most of the ARC Commanders also took names which replaced their numerical clone designations. Commander Cody, who served with Obi-Wan Kenobi throughout the war, Commander Gree, who served with Jedi Master Luminara Unduuli, Commander Bacarra, who served with Jedi Master Ki-Adi Mundi, and Commander Bly, who served with Jedi Knight Aayla Secura, were all some of the most accomplished and superb examples of the ARC Commander program.
The clone troopers would eventually carry out Order 66 at the behest of Chancellor Palpatine and turn on their Jedi Generals. This marked the end of the Clone Wars, as well as the death of the Old Republic and the birth of the Galactic Empire. It was at this time that the clone troopers became the Imperial Stormtrooper Corps.

A Scuba Diving Instructor's Guide to Mask

A good Dive Mask lasts for years and unless it gets lost, you will probably never need to buy an other one.
MATERIAL SELECTION

Q: Plastic or Glass Lens?
A: GLASS LENS. Tempered Glass to be more precise. It means that the lens is very strong and if it breaks it cracks rather than splinters. (think windscreen) - though I have never seen one even crack.
Q: Two Lens Or One?
A: TWO one lense masks have larger volume capacity for air and for water too if the mask should ever leak. And it might if you smile underwater! Clearing the mask is easier if it's less flodded.
Q: Rubber, Plastic or Silicon Skirt?
A: SILICON SKIRT. Softer than plastic, moulds better to your face. The flexible nose-pocket will allow you to equalise by pinching your nose. (That is to relieve the pressure on your eardrums when you decend under water.)
SIZE SELECTION
Q: How Do I know If The Mask Fits?
Mask don't come in a great variety sizes, but some people may need special consideration.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
- Presciption Glass Wearers: Presciption lenses are available for dive masks, although if you can wear Contact Lenses do so. Make sure to shut your eyes while clearing water in case of flodding though. Your dive instructor will teach you how to clear your mask underwater
Moustache, Beard: One Word for you hairy men, Vaseline. Put on facial hair will help the sealing.
Fog Prevetion: SPIT this old time favorite is still the best. (and Free)
Now please do go to my shop and buy your mask there. I think I deserve you custom after all this :o))) Cheers!

To buy an Electric scooter or Gas Scooter?

The purpose of my guide is to give some advice on buying a fun recreational Scooter. I'm on my 2nd electric scooter and I love it! I freely admit that I believe an electric scooter is much more superior than a gas scooter unless you have to travel long distances. Gas scooters do go a little faster and farther than electric but other than that there's real negatives: Gas Scooters are very loud, produce Smog and must be mechanically mantained. You have to mix a gas
